Oethey Junction

Main Junctions - നീര്‍വിളാകം
The name of this junction is driven from a funny story. Around 50 years ago there was a small shop here at this junction, which sold sweets, tobacco, cigarettes, soda, lemon juice and similar small items. It means the shop was smaller than the smallest, ever seen. The owner of that particular shop was an eighty year old lady. As everybody knows, there were no regular public transport services available in Neervilakom. Private vehicles were also very scarce at that time. Those who pass this point used to visit the shop to purchase cigarette or lemon juice. Since it is another gateway to Neervilakom village, people used to say “wow at last we reached” (“oh ethipoyi” in Malayalam) when they actually reach the junction probably as a sign of relief. Gradually people began to call the shopkeeper by that name (oh ethy and then oyethy) and later it has been diverted to this junction’s name. This old lady died in later 90’s, and the shop was also demolished. Now there is a kanikkavanchi of lord Ayyappa (constructed on 2004) at the same place, but still the junction keeps the same name, Oethy junction.

This junction is situated in the main road, and it’s only 150 mts away from Kurishumudu junction. This junction makes the gateway between Arattupuzha village and Neervilakom village. Arattupuzha Jn., a junction in the Chengannur- Aranmula road is only 1 km from this point, which is the nearest access to river Pampa for Neervilakom residents. Arattupuzha is famous for Orthodox Church, Devi temple and Arattupuzha Nair service society owns a Palliyodam, which participates in the world famous Aranmula boat race. Arattupuzha is very important for Neervilakom community because the 17 th number state highway called M K road passes through this village and that road is the main access for Neervilakom residents to reach other parts of the state

The straight road from Oethy junction leads to the next junction called Kalechumodi junction and there after to the heart of Neervilakom.
